Slavery exisited in the U.S. prior to the manufacture of cotton
textiles in the U.S. Prior to 1793 there was not a cotton industry in
the U.S. Prior to the 19th century the major use for slaves in the
U.S. was to have a labor force for the tabacco industry. Nobody prior
to 1793 in the U.S. wasted time growing cotton because prior to 1793
growing cotton was a waste of time. In the 18th century there was no
reason for slaves to pick cotton. The reason why is because prior to
1793 separating the seed from the cotton would have had to be done by
hand and it would have taken far too long to do that in order to be
profitable. Since slavery existed prior to the cotton industry in the
U.S. your assumption is in all likelyhood is wrong. Slaves would have
and were still used for other industries such as the tabacco industry.
