Do not underestimate the need for liberty but if there are to be changes in the middle east they must come from the people not some foreign government.
Also about Iraq - it is not free. As long as their are foreign forces there it is not free. I did not consider Estonia to be free as a kid with all the Soviet Union troops around nor shall I now consider Iraq to be free.
Furthermore I do not understand why there is this assumption that US can make liberty prevail in other parts of the world. Could somebody please explain this to me? US has an awful track record on this. It put the Taliban and Ba'ath party to power. It sacrifised the Eeastern Europe in Teheran and Yalta conference and FDR even went as far as to say that Baltic states would join Soviet Union vouluntarily if they could. I wonder what would my grandparents have to say about that considering that their land and liberty was stripped away and they where sent to Siberia.
Eric, considering you are one of the biggest proponents of the so called pro-defence(change the world to our likeing) policy, please explain to me how has the foreign policy of US benefitted the so called oppressed nations. I would sure love to know how changing the rezimes in the middle east in every 20-30 years has benefited them. Or how US aligning them with brutal rezimes makes the world better.
But most importantly to me, how did giving Eastern Europe on a silver plate to Stalin make my childhood so great, not that I did not enjoy the getting up 6 am to go to the store lines with my mother or the empty shelves that awaited us in the stores. Not to mention the brutal soldiers and my parents being constantly interrigated by the kgb and other equally fun stuff.
Anyway how exacly does the US foreign policy benefit the US or any other nation?
Best wishes,
Urmas
