can work towards it's immediate privatization. You'd have to convince the
populace that this is the best solution. Of course, that is an extremely
difficult task. You could work to get into law that no program be subsidized
by another, in which case the subway system would lose any taxpayer
subsidies and the riders would have to pay the real costs. The result might
be less ridership or a loud call for privatization. I think that's a more
likely route but you'd be going up against some powerful unions and
political hacks.
I think we need to start at the federal level and privatize the post office.
It's something that many people would agree with, especially when they are
informed that the postal system is not self-sufficient as many claim but in
fact accepts huge Federal subsidies. Then we can work downward to the local
level.

Candidate for Governor of New York St
Sam, it was meant to be a serious question. It has been many years
since I have lived in New York (City) and so I have not paid much
attention to what has been written about the problems of government
monopoly in that place. I am sure that there have been studies done
and papers written on ways to remove the city from the transit
business (as well as the police, firefighting and sanitation
businesses and return those industries to private entrepreneurs. If
you want me to, I will try to find some of them (though you would
probably have better and easier access to them than I).
