When Clifford Antone opened his club at its original location on East Sixth Street it was a small music venue. From there he built a musical empire that led to the birth of the now-famous East Sixth Street entertainment district.
Antone, 56, died Tuesday.
Finding a live band on weeknight is not hard to do in Austin. And for that, Austin can thank Antone.
"He brought blues clubs here in the '70s when no one else was doing that. He brought leading musicians from around the country and sometimes from around the world to Austin, Texas, to contribute to our culture. So, he was an early pioneer when it came to Austin becoming a Live Music Capital of the World," Austin business man and music lover Richard Halpin said.

Austin musician Overlord praised Clifford Antone for embracing all styles of music. Clifford Antone gave many Austin musicians their first break.
His death at 56 leaves an immeasurable void in the heart of Austin's music community.
His legacy includes helping start the careers of legends like Stevie Ray Vaughan and The Fabulous Thunderbirds.
"You can't underestimate Clifford's influence in term of the blues because it was global," Jody Denberg of KGSR said.
People from all around the world know the name of Antone's club. The Home of Blues is an icon of Austin's music scene.
"I don't think you get Austin as the Live Music Capital of the World without Clifford Antone," musician Guy Forsythe said.

Clifford Antone help start many famous music careers in his club.
His love for music and support of local musicians had no limits.
"He embraced all types of music and we all owe everything to him," musician Overlord said.
Antone's many friends now wonder how his club will be able to go on without him.
"Our first concern is for the passing of Clifford and for his family but when ... it comes down to brass tacks what the heck is going to happen?" Denberg said.
Antone's name symbolized the heart and soul of Austin music for the last three decades.
His countless friends expect his sprit to carry on for many more.
"Lets all pray that his work lives on because he'd be pretty ticked off if he were to find out the we let the ball drop once he was gone," Denberg said.

Jimmie Vaughan Clifford Antone will be remembered on Wednesday with a special show at his club.
The show will have a whos who of Austin music scene playing to honor the clubman who died Tuesday at 56.
The show will be free and the doors will open at 4 p.m. Donations can be made to American Youthworks, a charity Antone helped. Groups expected at the tribute are Double Trouble, Malford Milligan, Guy Forsythe and Cyril Neville.

Jimmie Vaughan was at the legendary club Tuesday night to pay his respects to Antone. He may join in the tribute on Wednesday. Antone named Jimmie Vaughan and The Fabulous Thunderbirds as his first house band. And, Jimmies brother, Stevie Ray, also got his start in Antones club.
I never thought Id be standing here doing this. I can guarantee the shockwave is still sort of happening and its hard to talk. I just want to send out condolences to Susan [Antones sister] and everybody in our little blues community that loved Clifford so much. And thank you, Clifford, for everything I guarantee you, we had more fun in Antones in all the different ones, starting down here on Sixth Street, than any human was allowed to have in five lifetimes, Vaughan said.
Stevie Ray Vaughan Clifford literally brought the blues to Austin allowing Vaughan and company to meet the old legends.
We had some bands and we were playing around and we used to go over Clifford had a store over by the university and wed go over there and play late at night in his back room And Clifford said, Im going to open a club up and Im going to get all the guys from Chicago and all the guys from Louisiana Were going to have blues all the time and nothing else. And so we played like the second or third night. It was the Thunderbirds and we were the house band for five years, Vaughan said.
Clifford taught me one thing, Vaughan said, If you want to have a scene, you have to create it yourself.
