Disclaimer: I am NOT asking any state LP to withdraw from its affiliation with the Libertarian National Committee, or to affiliate with the Boston Tea Party's national committee. Not saying that will never happen, but it's not happening now. That said, I doubt the situation is as you think it is. For the most part, political parties have their legal existence at the state level, and if the Georgia LP decided to disaffiliate itself from the LNC, it would likely have no legal effect on the state party's status under Georgia law. The LPGA might choose to nominate its own presidential slate, or to affiliate with another national organization within which a number of state parties choose the same presidential slate. If you look at other parties, it is often the case that their state affiliate was formerly the affiliate of a different national committee. A number of state Constitution Party affiliates appear on the ballot as the "American Independence Party," because they have organizational continuity in their state from George Wallace's old organization. Jesse Ventura was the candidate of the "Independence Party" -- which, at the time, was affiliated nationally with the Reform Party -- in Minnesota. The national Democratic Party's affiliate in that state is the "Democratic Farmer-Labor Party." The obvious go-to guy on such questions is Richard Winger of Ballot Access News. There are, of course, other factors besides state ballot access status to consider. Regards, Tom Knapp ForumWebSiteAt http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Libertarian Yahoo!
