What's Behind the Current Middle East War?
by Robert L. Johnson

When Hamas captured the Israeli soldier and demanded a prisoner exchange
with the Israelis, that was pretty much standard operating procedure in
Israel's war against the Palestinians. The government of Israel holds
approximately 10,000 Palestinian men, women and children hostage in their
concentration camps. They have in the past exchanged Palestinian people they
were holding for captured Israeli soldiers.
Shortly after Hamas captured the Israeli soldier, Hezbollah captured two
more Israeli soldiers on Israel's northern border with Lebanon. Hezbollah also
demanded a prisoner exchange with the Israeli government. But this time Israel
is not releasing any of the 10,000 Palestinians it is holding captive. Instead,
Israel has launched a major military offensive with the BILLIONS of US tax
dollars worth of fighter jets, attack helicopters and missiles their AIPAC
drones in Washington have GIVEN them. Why the change? Why now have the Israelis
changed the way the game is played?
There are two reasons. The first is obvious. They are taking this
opportunity to use all the military power the US politicians and American tax
payers have given them to destroy those who resist their theft of Palestinian
lands. And at the same time they are putting their neighbors, particularly
Lebanon, in a state of chaos and confusion with the intense bombings against
civilian targets and infrastructure. If your competitors, actual or potential,
are in a state of confusion they are not a threat to you.
There is, however, another goal they probably hope to achieve. They want
to draw Syria into the fight and destroy any anti-Israel forces in that
country. Their reason for this is not because Syria wants to push helpless tiny
Israel into the sea, but because Israel wants Iraqi oil that has to flow
through Syrian controlled areas to get to Israel.
Back in April of 2003, shortly after Bush launched the war against Iraq
to "bring the people freedom and democracy," the Israelis were already talking
quietly about refurbishing and widening the old Mosul oil pipeline that the
British had used in the 1930s and early 1940s to pump oil from Iraq to Haifa,
Palestine, which is now Haifa, Israel.
Israeli Infrastructure Minister Yosef Paritsky said that getting oil
directly from Iraq could lower energy costs for Israel by 15 to 20 percent!
That sounds like a great deal! I'm sure the parents, spouses, children,
siblings and friends of those Americans killed in Iraq will feel much better
knowing their loved ones didn't die in vain!
Paritsky says he is certain that the US would approve of sending Iraqi
oil from recently "liberated" Iraqi oil fields to Israel. He knows that when
it comes to US foreign policy regarding Israel and the Middle East, the
plutocrats can be counted on to blindly support the Jewish state with American
cash and American lives. For all practical purposes, the US Congress and the
White House are Israeli, not American.
Bush and the political whores/pimps in Washington are proving bin Laden
right. The al Qaeda founder and leader said Bush's war in Iraq was to make the
Middle East more likely to serve the interests of Israel. What could be more
beneficial to Israel than to wipe out Saddam who was paying the families of
Islamic suicide bombers who struck inside Israel $25,000, send billions of
Iraqi oil to Israel, and take down Syria and Iran in the process? As Michael
Scheuer stated in his outstanding book Imperial Hubris, "The question is
whether US interests require Americans to be Israel's protectors and endure the
endless blood-and-treasure costs of that role. Status quo US policy toward
Israel will result in unending war with Islam."
Most of the sheeple running around the country don't realize this. The
media and government do a good job of equating Israel's interests with
America's interests even though nothing could be further from the truth. It's
time for people who actually THINK to awaken the mesmerized masses and let them
know what is actually going on.
