Tidbits from Mr. Lieberman's website:
WASHINGTON Senator Joe Lieberman (D-CT) expressed his disappointment over
the Senate's failure to enact a minimim wage hike and his dismay at
Republicans' tactic of linking the wage hike to an estate tax giveaway that
would have increased an already out-of-control federal budget deficit.
",,,No one who works for a living should have to suffer in poverty.
Unfortunately, Republicans in Congress are more interested in repealing the
estate tax benefiting the wealthiest Americans than helping working
Americans make ends meet."
You see, Joe Lieberman believes that government can raise wages and lift
workers out of poverty. That's libertarian? That's not even "right-wing
government slashing."
WASHINGTON Today, Senator Joe Lieberman and a bipartisan group of his
Senate colleagues urged President Bush in a letter to release the remaining
$80 million in Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP)
contingency funds to help provide cooling assistance to low-income families
this summer after one of the warmest months in U.S. history.
WASHINGTON Senators Chris Dodd (D-CT) and Joe Lieberman (D-CT) announced
today the allocation of $897,901 from the U.S. Department of Education TRIO
programs to Fairfield University, the University of Bridgeport and the
University of Connecticut. The money will be used to provide a variety of
support services to minority and first generation college students,
including academic and financial counseling, to help them graduate high
school, and attend and succeed in college.
"While consumers in Connecticut and throughout the nation are feeling the
sharp pinch of this latest spike in gas prices, our nations oil companies
continue to turn larger profits than ever before. We cannot continue to
stand by while big oil fattens its bottom line on the backs of hard-working
Americans. With the legislation on the Senate floor this week, the
Republican leadership could protect consumers from corporate misbehavior and
begin to cure our crippling addiction to oil. Instead, Majority Leader Frist
today blocked amendments that I had cosponsored to crack down on price
gouging, make our cars more fuel efficient, and end our oil addiction.
Unfortunately, the Bush Administration and many members of Congress still
cannot seem to grasp what the American public now knows, namely, that we
cannot drill our way out of this energy crisis.
Cutting taxes and affirmative action programs probably sounds great to his
moderate constituents, but he still brings home the pork and does what he
can to put private property through the government ringer.
"Washington Acknowledging the importance of preserving and protecting
southeastern Connecticuts Eightmile River, Senators Chris Dodd (D-CT) and
Joe Lieberman (D-CT) today announced that they have proposed legislation
which would assign the federal Wild and Scenic status to the river. The bill
asks the Secretary of the Interior to designate Eightmile River as Wild and
Scenic, following a comprehensive study highlighting the rivers intrinsic
and environmental value. A similar measure was proposed in the House by
Representative Rob Simmons (CT-2). "
WASHINGTON - The Senate Appropriations Committee approved a measure
that, thanks in part to the work of Senators Chris Dodd and Joe Lieberman,
would provide funds for agricultural and economic initiatives across
Connecticut. Dodd and Lieberman worked with their Appropriations Committee
colleagues to ensure that funds for a number of Connecticut projects are
included in the fiscal year 2007 Department of Agriculture Appropriations
Bill. The legislation will now be considered by the full Senate.
Statists don't have to agree on everything and left-wing, right-wing doesn't
have a whole lot of meaning to a politician who has to straddle the middle
to keep himself in office. I'm not sure why you think a right-winger isn't
as much pro-state as any left winger. Sure, they talk a good line about
private ownership, but it really boils down to we own our property and the
government tells us what we can do with it - and the same for our bodies.

Yes, of course. This makes all the sense in the world. Lieberman
is a "statist." I suppose that's why the Ned Lamonters were
slamming him for being a "closet right-winger" the last couple weeks
for supporting Educational Vouchers, opposing Affirmative Action
laws, and support Bush's Tax Cuts.
But hey, vouchers, affirmative action and tax cuts aren't really
part of the libertarian agenda, now are they?
Kind of puts things in perspective now doesn't it. You see
Lieberman as a "statist" yet others see him as a "government
slashing right-winger."
