As far as I know, Ron Paul is not a sponsor of this bill. I checked the list of items which he sponsored or cosponsored. If he does not think it is worth of sponsoring, I don't think that I will waste time on it either.

S. House The FairTax bill (H.R. 25) in committee of the U.S. House has picked up its 57th (Rep. Mike Pence, R. IN) and 58th (Rep. Dan Boren D. OK) House co-sponsors. I prepared the "Thank You" emails (see below) via Congress.org's service. (On PC computers, hold the SHIFT key while clicking to open links in another window). And I would encourage others to do so. For Pence - http://www.congress.org/congressorg/mail/?id=10559&type=CO&state=IN See what others sent, here - http://snipurl.com/Pence_Ltrs (To call DC Office, instead - (202) 225-3021 ) For Boren - http://www.congress.org/congressorg/mail/?id=137385&type=CO&state=OK See what others sent, here - http://snipurl.com/Boren_Ltrs (DC Office - 202-225-2701 ) Additionally, if you would like to add your name to those of over 700,000 other Americans, please "Vote the Petition" at: http://db.fairtaxvolunteer.org/petition.php Finally, AFFT has posted on its homepage a conference with Chairman, Leo Linbeck. In this video link, answers the question, "What is the one thing that you would like Americans to know about the FairTax, and how it will benefit America as a whole?" mms://wm14.spacialnet.com/Fair_Tax_Orlando_Archive/Linbeck-q11.wmv (Mr. Linbeck's testimony to the president's tax panel may be found here: http://waysandmeans.house.gov/hearings.asp?formmode=view&id=4174 ) Ian --------- Dear Congressman ... , Thank you for co-sponsoring the FairTax bill HR 25. I am a volunteer who spends many sacrificial personal hours (working largely alone) sharing the FairTax with citizens who have never heard of it, and obtaining their name on our petition. Our numbers are growing every day - and you've just helped that effort SUBSTANTIALLY by your co- sponsorship. Replacing the income tax with the FairTax results in the following tax function improvements: FOR INDIVIDUALS: * No more tax on income - make as much as you wish. * Wage-earners receive full paycheck - no more deductions. * The tax is paid at the "retail cash register" - not "used." * No more double taxation (e.g. like on current Capital Gains). * Reduction of "pre-FairTaxed" retail prices by 20%-30%. * (Added back) 29.9% FairTax maintains current price levels. * FairTax constitutes 23% portion of new prices. * Every household receives a monthly check, or "pre-bate." * Pre-bate reimburses for taxes on spending to poverty level. * FairTax's pre-bate ensures progressivity, poverty protection. * Finally, citizens are knowledgeable of what their tax IS. * Elimination of "parasitic" Income Tax industry. * NO MORE IRS. NO MORE FILING OF TAX RETURNS by individuals. * Those possessing illicit forms of income also pay. * Households have more disposable income to purchase goods. * Savings is bolstered with reduction of interest rates. FOR BUSINESSES: * Corporate income and payroll taxes revoked under FairTax. * Business compensated for collecting tax at "cash register." * No more income-tax-related lawyers, lobbyists on corp. payrolls. * No more embedded (hidden) income/payroll compliance costs in prices. * Reduced costs. Competition - not tax policy - drives prices. * Off-shore "tax haven" headquarters can now return to U.S. * No more "favors" from politicians at expense of taxpayers. * Resources go to R&D and study of competition - not taxes. * Marketplace distortions eliminated for fair competition. * US exports increase their share of foreign markets. FOR THE COUNTRY: * 7% - 13% economic growth projected in the first year of the FairTax. * Jobs return to the U.S. * Foreign corporations "set up shop" in the U.S. * Tax system trends are corrected to "enlarge the pie." * Larger economic "pie," means thinner tax rate "slices." * Initial 23% portion of price is pressured downward as "pie" increases. * No more "closed door" tax deals by politicians and specific businesses / sectors. * FairTax sets new global standard. Other countries will follow. Your vote of confidence in the FairTax has brought us closer to realizing these benefits. --- End forwarded message --- Tax Momentum By Philip Kerpen for The New York Sun August 15, 2006 - http://www.nysun.com - The Senate Finance Committee recently began its tax reform effort in earnest, holding a hearing called "Kick-Off for Tax Reform: Tackling the Tax Code." It certainly needs tackling. The number of pages of federal tax rules exploded to 66,498 in 2006 from 26,300 in 1984, according to a Cato Institute study. Compliance costs with this mass of rules topped $265 billion in 2005, according to the Tax Foundation. While the hearing went mostly unnoticed, it marks the opening of a rare opportunity to enact fundamental tax reform. The chairman of the finance committee, Senator Grassley, set the tone by signaling an openness to consider the leading reform proposals, including the flat tax, the retail sales tax, and the value-added tax. This is welcome news because it means Senator Grassley does not intend to limit himself to the narrow recommendations of the president's tax panel.
