Steve Gresh, Vice President of the Colorado Chapter of the Republican Liberty
Caucus (RLC), endorses the Libertarian 3rd Congressional District candidate,
Bert Sargent.

The RLC is a grassroots, nationwide organization working to advance the
principles of limited government, individual liberty and free markets within
the Republican Party and throughout America . Their focus is on a broad range
of issues, including education, taxation, property rights, gun rights, free
speech, federalism and the proper role of government. While rolling back
decades of government "nannyism" will require a great deal of public education
and grassroots lobbying, the most important means of changing public policy is
to change public officials. Therefore, the RLC works to elect pro-liberty
Republicans to offices at all levels, partisan and non-partisan, in both
primary and general elections. The RLC is committed not to just electing more
Republicans. .. but better Republicans.

But in the 3rd district congressional race, The Republican candidate, Scott
Tipton, stated that “we need to put our civil liberties on the back burner, and
support the Patriot Act”.

“This statement by Mr. Tipton shows clearly that he is more concerned with
government power rather than liberty for our citizens”, said Gresh, “while Bert
Sargent very clearly understands the constitution’s purpose is to limit the
powers of the government over the infringement of citizens rights. Just as
clearly, neither of his opponents understand this critical concept”.

The incumbent, John Salazar, also vehemently supports the Patriot Act.

Gresh attended the Grand Junction Club 20 debates on September 9th, and noted
that when Bert Sargent asked both of his opponents how the trillions of dollars
of national debt should be paid off, neither answered the question. “This debt
is unconstitutional and unlawful”, said Gresh, “and Bert Sargent’s opponents
are unconcerned about that. Only Mr. Sargent seems to understand how Congress
should work.”

In an unprecedented action, Steve Gresh has also endorsed the Libertarian
Gubernatorial candidate, Dawn Winkler, after carefully watching both debates at
the Club 20 event.
