Subject: Help Send Mr. Smither to Washington!

Dear Libertarian Voter,

In an ordinary election year, a Libertarian candidacy for the Texas 22nd
Congressional District would be a long shot at best. Like most districts, this
U.S. House seat was specifically designed to elect an incumbent - in this case
former House Majority Leader Tom DeLay. Libertarians usually run because of a
commitment to principle, not because of any great chance of winning. This time
we may be able to do both.

2006 is no ordinary election year in the 22nd District. Tom DeLay resigned
from Congress due to mounting legal problems, and the Democrats went to court
to prevent the Republican Party from nominating a new candidate. Even though
the district is historically a Republican stronghold (60-65% Republican), the
Democrat's tax and spend nominee, Nick Lampson, is poised to claim it as his
own. As there is no Republican on the ballot, the only person standing in the
way is Bob Smither - the Libertarian candidate.

You've probably read about Bob Smither's campaign for Congress in Texas' 22nd
District in the recent issue of LP News. Bob's incredibly exciting background
may be viewed on his bio page at
http://www.bobsmither.com/about.<http://www.bobsmither.com/about?from=ll> The
combination of Bob's history of community service combined with the unusual
circumstances surrounding this year's election have given the Libertarian Party
an opportunity to do something it has never done before.

Bob Smither's candidacy has been profiled in articles and opinion columns from
the Washington Times, Congressional Quarterly, the New York Times, the Atlanta
Journal-Constitution, and the Wall Street Journal. All reflect the same thing -
District 22 is the first realistic chance the Libertarian Party has ever had at
winning a seat in Congress.

Former Congressman Bob Barr and Texas State Land Commissioner Jerry Patterson
have endorsed Bob Smither. Both have emphatically stated that a write-in
candidate can not succeed in beating Lampson at the polls. Smither can.

To date, we have developed professional campaign literature, placed campaign
signs in yards, and made frequent public appearances. Our block-walking teams
are blanketing the district several days a week. We have received
significantly more media attention than any other LP candidate this election
cycle. Additionally, the campaign has already placed more than 60,000 calls to
active voters within the district -- and will continue to do so until Election
Day.

We are already doing a heck of a lot with scant resources. If we had
additional funds, we could exploit additional forms of media such as radio and
television advertising. We are currently developing a coordinated advertising
campaign with the expectation that funds will be available to launch as many
commercials as possible before Election Day.

The 22nd District leans Republican and many traditionally conservative voters
here agree with Bob Smither's message of lower taxes and limited government.
Bob needs your help in making sure this message reaches the voters. We're
asking for your assistance to make history in District 22 and potentially elect
the first Libertarian to Congress.

Here are three simple things that you can do to help the Bob Smither for
Congress campaign:

1. Please go to www.bobsmither.com/donatenow<http://bobsmither.com/donatenow>
and contribute $10, $50, $100, or whatever amount you can afford. Our campaign
is entirely funded by private donations from around the country. We do not
have the big government lobbyist support of our Democrat opponent, nor do we
want it. Your contribution is crucial in enabling us to carry Bob's message to
the voters of the District, potentially electing the first Libertarian to the
US Congress.

2. E-mail 4-8 of your friends and send them either this message or a link to
www.bobsmither.com<http://www.bobsmither.com/>

Ask them to do TWO things:

A. Watch the video on the front page of the website and then send a
contribution.

<http://bobsmither.com/?from=ll>

B. E-mail 4-8 of their own friends to do exactly the same thing.

3. Everywhere you go, talk up this revolution in the making down in Texas.

Think about it: An honest Libertarian of principle is poised to take the House
seat formerly occupied by a Republican of great power, a man now tainted by
scandal. Folks, this campaign can make history. Please join us in sending Mr.
Smither to Washington.

Thanks for your help,

P.S. The Republican write-in is now
bragging<http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/politics/4235807.html> that she
raised 200K by bringing Tom Delay and Dick Cheney to a lunch fund-raiser
yesterday. Stephen Gordon just
posted<http://hammeroftruth.com/2006/10/05/a-few-hours-with-the-smither-campaign/>
that he's coordinating multiple fund-raising options at the moment. We all
know that Libertarians have contributed more than $200K with past online
appeals. Let's beat Gordon to the punch by donating $200K even before the
printed letters arrive in the mailbox.
