In our zeal to see a USSR defeat in Afghanistan, the US supported a Muslim insurgency over several other more moderate factions. The CIA had hoped that this support might even overflow and overwhelm the Shia that had taken power in Iran. This arrogance failed to take into account the contempt between the Shia and the Wahabi Sunni's of the Taliban. They all look the same to us! Today, we support the Northern Alliance, the puppets of the USSR. And now we wonder why they don't show us gratitude? PEACE Steven R.
