Steven,

Vic has been a strong advocate of the nanny state at least since
last Dec when he was arguing here in support of seat-belt laws.
Even though his position was decimated by other posts using the
most fundamental libertarianism, apparently he has not changed
his thought. I believe the most libertarian thing he has ever
advocated is a "low flat rate taxes".

Vic-

I can't tell from your post if you are rationalizing the actions
of the
Honorable (sic) Mark "No Child Left Behind" Foley, or suggesting
"government" protection from our government and it's leaders.

Foley has made much of his claim of innocence because he was
drunk.

Personally, I don't buy it. Believe it or not, I too, have been
a bit
inebriated at times. But I've never, ever, been so out of it
that I would
do something so outrageous.

And even when I did do something stupid, I have never tried to
escape the
consequences on the basis of inebriation. As Terry as stated
above, I, and
only I, am the only person that is responsible for my actions.

Further, your "best of intentions" argument is ludicrous. Nobody
has my
"best intentions" when I buy a fat laden cheeseburger at
McDonald's or when
I buy a pack of smokes from the local smoke shop.

To make the silly suggestion on this list that we need protection
from
ourselves is an idea that won't sell to any libertarian. If you
want nanny
state protection from yourself, you should take the argument to
any
republican or democrat list. I'll bet they have a multitude of
issues and
actions from which to "protect" you.
