Garry,

Good point. According to your facts, Kerry's "botched joke/line"
was literally correct. Hmmm. Maybe he really intended to say it.
Let's analyze. First, he claimed he was talking about Bush, and
that DID seem to be the context. Later he said he botched a joke.
If both are true, and he botched a joke about Bush, I'm unclear
about how the joke was supposed to have been read. He said he
botched it, but he has yet to divulge how it was supposed to have
gone. (Or has he? I haven't heard.) Until he does, one can only
deduce that the joke was supposed to imply some very bad and
unfunny logic: "kids, if you don't get an education, you might
end up becoming a president and starting a bad war". Whether he
was making a senseless joke about Bush and stupidity and kids, or
whether he was making a general statement about the education
level of most troops, his words were idiotic. Making a good joke
about bush is extremely easy (there is no shortage of material),
and the idea of criticizing the troops in public is extremely
"stupid". Now that is not to say that Kerry's reaction to
Republican pouncing was not necessarily accurate or courageous,
but it must be taken "in context".

A good thing about being a Libertarian is that I don't have to
explain or defend either big-party politicians.

Dosen't insult me, a veteran of 100 combat missions in
Korea 52-53 during which 25% of the pilots in my unit
were killed or captured

The army recruiters are now accepting kids without
high school diplomas ........ in the early 90's 27% of
army applicants with high school diplomas were found
to be functionally illiterate. For many kids who can
barely sign their names the army with it's massive
sign-on bonus and all sorts of high sounding promises
is attractive to one who can't find a decent job.

Face it man ..... we're in Iraq-Nam, an
unconstitutional non-winnable war thrust upon the
gullible by a chicken-hawk. Those rag-heads haven't
forgotten the crusades ....... how long do you think
before they forget and forgive the 650,000 arabs we
have killed this time around.

Imagine if a bunch of "others" of a weird religion
and with weapons 10 times more hi-tech than yours
invaded your country, destroyed whole towns, cut off
your electricity and water, imprisoned and tortured
for 5 long years? Sure would generate a massive dose
of hatred in my gut.

And I'm no supporter of any democrat, let alone Kerry,
but realistically the social and fiscal policies of
Bush are only a hair apart from those of the Dems.
