We just put out a press release today.
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Libertarians Call on Legislature to end No-Knock Raids The Libertarian Party of Georgia offers our sympathies to the family of Kathryn Johnston, as well as offering our thoughts to the families of the three injured Atlanta police officers. The Libertarian Party of Georgia also calls on the Georgia General Assembly to end the practice of no-knock raids in Georgia during their 2007 session. Trevor Southerland, the Executive Director of the Libertarian Party of Georgia says that the State Legislature needs to take action in its 2007 session to end no-knock raids. For far too long government authorities have violated the rights of citizens by exercising these no-knock raids, in which often times innocent people are injured and sometimes killed Southerland said. He continued, Its time for the Georgia State Legislature to end this practice in Georgia, to assure that innocent citizens like Kathryn Johnston arent shot dead for defending their property, and that our law enforcement agents are not put in harms way unnecessarily. Jason Pye, the Chairman of the Libertarian Party of Georgia, said: The law enforcement agents have a job to do, and thats to protect the citizens. I have the highest regard for police officers, and our state legislature owes it to our brave officers to assure they are never put in this situation again. What happened was a tragedy for all involved, but the legislature can assure that no other family has to feel the pain that the families of those three officers, and the family of Kathryn Johnston are feeling today.
