The forces of darkness and confusion have dealt another blow to the Libertarian
Party, or any party that wishes their candidates to actually stand for anything
besides the ego gratification of being a name on a ballot.
The compounding of the confusion of what the LP stands for (and what the LP is
and is not) that already exists in the public eye will be easier now. It is not
unimaginable that Republicrats could actually run subversive candidates as
"Libertarians" (Sen. Mike Bennett - of pro-eminent-domain 'fame' once told me
"Hell Bill, I'm as libertarian as YOU are") that advocate things that are
completely alien to Libertarian Principles - such as starting firefights with
government agents, which the Libertarian Pledge does not allow - so that the
Attorney General and/or Secretary of State would be justified in naming the LP
a "domestic terrorist organization" under section 411 of the USAPATRIOT Act.
Well, we wanted to play in the big leagues; now we've got it. The only way now
for the LPF to indicate which candidates actually have the support of the
Libertarian Party of Florida is to send the candidates we support MONEY, just
like the Republicrats have to do. They pick their candidates and their races;
now we'll have to do the same thing. Of course, we don't have the money they
do, so it's only a question of time before someone advocates watering down our
message to get more contributions. Oh wait - there's already a Libertarian
Reform Caucus...
While it's possible that we might actually get a Libertarian candidate elected
by funding selected candidates, it's also possible that agent provocateurs
could destroy the LP forever.
Are there no grounds upon which we can stand to take back control of our good
name? The State of Florida has just taken away our right to identify ourselves
by choosing our own representatives to the public at election time.
I'm SO tempted to say "there oughta be a law," but too many laws is already our
problem...

Thank you for that report. There is one good thing that the report contained
that I must thank Mike Barr and Mark Clifford for. That is the change in the
law that no longer allows the LPF ex-com or the annual convention to keep real
Libertarians off the ballot in Florida as Libertarians. These people were
successful in keeping me off the ballot in Florida as a Libertarian. It will
never happen again. They raised plenty of hell to the state elections
commission and elected representives because I dared to call myself a
Libertarian. I was talking to the same people at the same time and my
suggestion was to remove the power to grant ballot access from the minor
parties. The state of Florida has done this. I was saving the news as a
conventio n surprize for our next state convention and I was going to rub their
noses in the fact. Since no one else would ever stoop low enough to read the
Florida Election Laws with regularity I thought I could save the news. You let
the cat out of the bag. Shame on you.Ha, ha, ha!!! Once again I win. Thank you
