Which the historical record shows we gave him mixed signals in the case of invading Kuwait, because Kuwait, was slant drilling into Iraq oil, and that if he did invade, "we" would not take sides one way or the other. Since he was our boy, he figured he could take us at our word. There is little evidence to suggest that Saddam was hostile towards SA, and even if he was, he couldn't even take Iran with our help. Hardly a threat either way you look at it. And like the propaganda leading up to the second gulf war, that of the first was just as dishonest, such as Iraqi troops throwing babies out of incubators, which was made up in whole by a pr firm of the admin at the time (though the same type things have been said about other enemies in the past when the ptb wish the dupes to get riled up fighting mad), and the girl giving the testimony about it, ended up being the daughter of a Kuwait diplomat, if I recall. Certainly it was none of our business, but it is a stretch, considering the historic record, to say it wasn't Saddam's. GLASPIE: I think I understand this. I have lived here for years. I admire your extraordinary efforts to rebuild your country. I know you need funds. We understand that and our opinion is that you should have the opportunity to rebuild your country. But we have no opinion on the Arab-Arab conflicts, like your border disagreement with Kuwait. http://chss.montclair.edu/english/furr/glaspie.html Read it and weep, you've been conned or you are part of the problem.
