Have you seen the American Express commercial where a guy goes up
to the airline counter to buy a ticket and uses a credit card
with kitten pictures (obviously not AmEx) and the counter-girl
motions for security who comes up behind him and says "come with
us, sir"? At first I couldn't believe what I was seeing or that
it was serious, but it's true; there's not a hint that it's
intended to be funny. Now I'm astounded every time I see it. A
major company is actually marketing their product as one that
will be less likely to incur the scrutiny of government security
forces. I don't know whether to be outraged at the company for
profiting from modern American fascism, or to be appreciative
that they are making a clever statement about the sad state of
our nation. As far as I know, this is a first. But even though
it's been running for many months, I've seen no
internet/libertarian reactions publicized. What should we make of
this?
