Hi Paul,
Thanks for your repeated efforts to get Barr on www.TheFreedomWorks.com the
radio show, including your latest communication with Shane... It's a pity
people there at LP HQ and Barr HQ both it seems are not responding,
particularly
given his visit to Florida the 23 and 24. I assure you I've never experienced
anything like this. With Barr having been on our show twice pre-nomination, his
silence is unfortunate, especially since there seems to be no interest in
contacting other radio media in Florida. Please try the contact at the end of
the
e-mail. Here is some information on how this lack of response or even activity
is self-undermining the campaign making activism impossible here in Pinellas,
among the Libertarian hotbed affiliates and also a critical vote area
(Pinellas-Orlando is the "Golden Corridor" as one political pundit put it. )
It's not you, Paul. In fact, there have been growing complaints on his
campaign's improvable co-ordination, including the recent revelation that his
campaign is not sharing inquiries with the LNC, which explains why we're not
getting
any to follow up on. Typically, such inquiries become the key activists for a
Presidential campaign given core activist's pre-commitments, so we can do
little to help him beyond what we normally do (itself formidable, we handed out
another 50,000 pieces of literature last year), but I would have loved to have
had an opportunity to train a Barr team to go into the GOP neighborhoods then
follow through putting them on our show. I might still be able to develop some
into poll sign holders which would help, if I knew who they were. But time
waits for no man, and if he sent me leads right now, I could do little with
with
his leads, it's too late, at least compared to continuing feed of the leads.
His visit to Florida conflicts with pre-scheduled outreach activities in
Pinellas, so I'm unable to attend his events at the universities in Gainesville
and
Orlando (strangely, there is insufficient address information on the location
at Barr's site), which will hurt. Fortunately the state LPF Chair, Karl
Dickey, will be at one of them at least and Julie is flogging the meetings on
her
sites Florida wide despite never being contacted on information.
Sadly, our other local people are also frustrated. Inevitably they compare
this campaign to Harry Browne, especially his first campaign; even the second
was in comparison a dream, and did I think some 20 events in Florida with his
team, or even Badnarik, with very good news and talk show presence and of
course
Campagna came here personally. As one activist put it, it's as if they were
pretending to campaign so they can prove some reformist theory that they could
do better by glitz.
In addition, the Ron Paul advocates, who were going to take up the Barr
banner, have gone ballistic over what they feel is Barr's snub of Paul at a
recent
press conference, though several have expressed interest in training for
local candidacies post election ( see
http://www.campaignforliberty.com/blog/?p=582 ). However I found myself at all
hours doing unwelcome damage control. The
result of the perceived snub is Paul people are not translating to Barr
activists, which was the case until they cancelled their meeting with us
because of
the Barr comments. The Barr meet-up group in Tampa is just getting underway,
and I've posted a link to the group in Lee county, Fl, which has developed a
handy sign much cheaper than what the Barr people are promoting. However,
despite the presence on their (the Tampa) site of a Barr HQ meet up
co-ordinating
staff, I doubt that they have any leads either. They'll have a meeting soon,
and I'll do my best.
On an ironic note e.g. Pinellas Club has received from prominent GOP and the
Democrats asking if we'll say nice things about their candidates, invitations
to events, lunch, etc. One of our people commented that right now we're
getting more attention from Obama's people than Barr's! So as you see, I don't
think
the problem is because Barr suddenly hates you, and the evidence leads me to
agree with your conception that there may be a serious problem.
However, I hope and wish them all the best at the Barr campaign, and
recognize that especially a late starting campaign as they did is difficult and
fraught with mis-steps, and so hope your continued efforts are fruitful. We'll
be
reconfiguring the LPPC site based on some feedback on how to best handle the
whole situation soon: we usually wait to reconfigure for when we get the
inquiries, but since none are forthcoming....
Try this guy below at this e-mail if you haven't already. Send me copy of
e-mail. He is one of the architects of Barrmania but according to his state
e-group in Alabama even they are just getting up, so our difficulties might
indeed
be inevitable if this is how it is with their favorite son's state, so to
speak.
Thanks.
MG
P.S. Am copying the LPF Execom as there has been some concern on this Barr
problem in recent meetings, and also to Our Man on the LNC, Mr. LaBianca, who
as
you recall chairs Hillsborough LP; and David Nolan.
