By now, most libertarians are familiar with the all-too-common "think of the children" tactic that is popular with proponents of government policies. This is a powerful psychological ploy that exploits parental instincts and provokes an emotional response against those who would let "the children" come to harm.
What not use that tactic against the state? After all, every state policy can be demonstrated to have a direct or indirect negative impact on children. For example, you can explain how government health-care schemes drive up costs astronomically thereby denying access to children, or how the Drug War puts our children in danger of gang violence. Our cause will not be won with cold logic alone. Emotional appeals are a vital tool in our arsenal. Nothing compels a person to action more than the fear of losing their child. As far as ethics is concerned, I consider these tactics to be ethical as long as they are not deceptive. ---Sasan
