Jon,

While drug addiction is certainly a problem, blaming it as the
cause of things liked "social problems from crime and injuries to
corruption of public officials and the loss of constitutional
rights" is somewhat shortsighted. Since drug addiction alone has
no direct victim, there must be another cause. How about drug
PROHIBITION?

While any new drug (or vaccine) is a good thing, there is another
pharmaceutical route out of the cycle of artificial
neurotransmitter reinforcement that's far better than disabling
the body's/mind's pleasure centers. While some addicts might
choose such a "chemical neutering", I suspect more would rather
get something that directly treats/cures their disorder.

...which gets us back to more of the terrible harm caused by drug
prohibition.

It is well understood that narcotics addiction is the cause of
many of
our social problems, from crime and injuries to corruption of
public
officials and the loss of our constitutional rights. But recent
work to
find vaccines for addiction deserve more attention and support.
