For Immediate Release:

Marinza Bruineman retained as Sam Sloan for NY Governor's Campaign Manager

The Committee to Elect Sam Sloan for New York State Governor on the
Libertarian Party Line announces that it has retained Marinza
Bruineman as Campaign Manager.

Marinza Bruineman is a political and human rights activist known for
her long battles for “Truth, Justice and the American Way”. She is
Dutch.

Marinza is best known for her long and successful battle in the
infamous “Cybersex Torture Case”. In that case, a Ph.D. Candidate in
Microbiology was accused of tying up and torturing a Barnard College
Student.

What the jury was not allowed to know was that the supposed victim was
heavily involved in S&M and frequented S&M Clubs. She liked being tied
up and tortured.

In her campaign to free the microbiology student, Marinza Bruineman
mounted an investigation and international campaign to publicize the
unfairness of this conviction. In the two years during which Jovanovic
was incarcerated, she wrote hundreds of letters, spoke with newspaper
editors and reporters, acquired the support of the alleged victim's
family, held TV interviews, printed and distributed fliers, and wrote
and published exonerating material herself – all of which generated
positive press that changed the public opinion about the alleged
crime. She also contributed to the successful appellate brief,
prepared by lawyer Diarmuid White of NYC.
Marinza Bruineman's discovery and location of a long-time S/M partner
of the alleged victim who was possibly responsible for the injuries
allegedly attributed to Jovanovic's torture, turned out to be pivotal
to Jovanovic's freedom. Although fully known to the prosecution, this
information had also been wilfully ommitted as exonerating evidence at
trial.

Because of the efforts of Marinza Bruineman, articles were published
in such printed media as the Boston Globe, The Wall Street Journal,
the Chicago Tribune, the New York Post, the New York Times [1] , the
New York Observer, Rolling Stone magazine, the NRC in the Netherlands,
as well as many other newspapers and magazines around the world.

The end results of her investigations and the tremendous amount of
constant publicity she secured, was that Oliver Jovanovic was released
on appeal after serving 20 months of his fifteen years to life
sentence, followed by the complete dismissal of the case in October of
2004.

The end result of this two year campaign was that Oliver Jovanovic was
freed and all charges dismissed. Oliver Jovanovic then completed his
Ph.D. Degree and is now a practicing doctor of microbiology.
