An interesting and esoteric point. You apparently mean to say that a person
may not join on behalf of his wife, children or girlfriend.

I previously provided the example of Audrey Silk, our smoker-rights
candidate for NYC Mayor in 2005. She showed up at the convention with five
of her supporters. One of them, whom I shall call "Mr. Big", paid the Party
memberships for all five at $15 each for a total of $75 in cash. These five
votes provided the winning margin so that Audrey got the nomination.

You are saying that those votes should not have been valid because somebody
else was joining for them all.

By the way, I now remember that the convention was at Bohemia Hall in
Queens. I remember this because I remember that Audrey and her smoker
friends were all standing outside the door to Bohemia Hall when I arrived.
They were chain smoking their cigarettes, as smoking was not allowed in the
building.

As Gary Popkin points out, I have a photographic memory, even though there
is not always film in the camera.

I do not remember the name of "Mr. Big". I do remember that he said that he
had contacts with big-time journalists on all the networks and would get
news articles and publicity about Audrey blasted all over everywhere,
bringing in lots of votes.

I also remember that we never saw nor heard from Mr. Big or any of Audrey's
friends again. All the money we ever got out of them was the $75. I do not
believe that Audrey Silk herself ever joined. No such network news articles
ever appeared. Audrey Silk finished in last place in the election.
