Then something must be very wrong in your test program: What unlocks the
mutex, if ev_run does not return? In your test program, when you lock
the mutex before ev_run and then try to lock it again before adding the
watcher, you should get an effective freeze, because the mutex is locked
and never freed.

Presumably, you changed something else, too?
