I re-downloaded the package and yes I was totally wrong with what I stated concerning "double gzip-envelope". I can't explain why the first attempt with tar -zxf failed. It might have been related to the Chinese proxy that I used during the first download... Anyhow, thanks for your answer and the excellent libev.
