I did think that at least to start with the idea was to offer options
for the common useful combinations and let the 'power user' supplement
things with environment variables later.

I think for me I would hope everything would end up supported and
hugectl become the real interface, but not in the short term at least.
I would probabally expect to see the basic stuff more forcfully
presented and documented than the full feature set too.
