If it's getting repeatedly created and destroyed, that might explain
the big swings in mem. usage.  But if it just gets created once and
then tossed out at the end of the run I'm not sure it would cause
this.

OTOH, Derek, this may be why your "back of the envelope" problem size
calculation caused the machines to swap ;-)
