Well... how about hitting the low hanging fruit first... and then we  
can see how much further we have to go.

BTW - I just checked in some changes to configure.in, aclocal.m4,  
etc..... so you'll probably want to update before doing this... I  
don't think I should have any more changes at that level for a while.
