If anyone there finds the time, I'd appreciate it - not doing any 1D
problems at the moment here but we rediscovered the deficiency when
trying to output a boundary mesh from a 2D problem.

In return, I'll fix the regression that's causing ExodusII_IO to hang
when handed a ParallelMesh.  ;-)
