You're late to find this statement -- MPI 2.2 has been out since 2009 
:-) But you're right, the bindings looked nice but had none of the 
benefits C++ offers. BOOST has MPI C++ bindings which I think are much 
more powerful (e.g. sending arbitrary objects across a channel).
