Sorry, I meant "add a parameter to miscellaneous_ex5.in"...

Probly better to add a parameter to miscellaneous_ex8.in to specify MONOMIAL or XYZ, rather than adding a whole new example, no?

I've still to check which compiler triggered the compilation
error, that was on a linux workstation I can't access anytime.

I took your patch you posted in this thread http://sourceforge.net/mailarchive/message.php?msg_id=29495952 and tried it out. I had to make two small fixes (a faulty assert and a missed allocation), but otherwise it worked. I added miscellaneous_ex8 which is a copy of miscellaneous_ex5, but runs with XYZ elements instead of MONOMIALS and it ran successfully in 2D and 3D and compared favorably with the MONOMIAL result. Thus, I committed your patch with my small fixes and the new miscellaneous_ex8 in r5844. Thanks for the patch!

Let me know if you still run into compiler problems.

Thanks again.

Best,

Paul
