Any chance you'd like to start by creating a miscellaneous example that has roughly similar PerfLog fractions to your own applications? Doesn't have to be fancy JFNK; starting with a TransientExplicitSystem and tweaking the complexity of a small nonlinear term ought to be sufficient.
