But let's not beat ourselves up about it.  Just last night I saw a
rant that GIMP has "absolutely no documentation".  If information
about how to use your software is merely available online or as part
of the distribution but is not a literally unavoidable part of the
user experience, there will be a large subset of users who will never
ever see it.  I understand why you can't play a modern console game
without "Now press X to do foo" pop-up windows breaking immersion
every 30 seconds, but I didn't realize the problem applied
*everywhere*.
