Along these lines, could we maybe get a reference to \DeltaU (or
something)? I've found it can be very useful to visualize intermediate
steps for complicated problems to see what's giving troubles. In
particular, before the line search kicks in so you can see what bombed
right after the linear solve in the Newton step.
