I believe there was an error in the formulation I was using yesterday (I
had an extra det(F) which wasn't supposed to be there). I've updated the
code on my fork, and it looks like it's working well now. (Note that it
converges well as long as I use the PETSc command line option
"-snes_linesearch_type basic".)
