petsc-2.3.1 with mpich-1.2.7, petsc-2.3.3 with whatever MPI implementation it downloaded itself, > 3) which tag/trunk version of libmesh in the svn repo you are using? Pretty much daily updates of the trunk. The examples are in a relatively precarious state when configured with "--enable-everything --enable-parmesh", but with "--enable-everything" I don't remember any time in which I couldn't get the examples to build. > 4) the compilers and verions of compilers used to build everything? Usually gcc 4.1.2 at the moment, but I think I've used intel 8.1 relatively recently without problems. > I've tried several combinations of intel 9.1, petsc2.3.3-p5, mpich2-1.0.4.p1, > and gnu 4.1.1 on 64bit machines w/ no luck. Want to give me a walkthrough of what you're doing to configure? I haven't used my ICES account for anything but email in years, and the services have apparently passed me by; when I tried logging in again today there was no "module" command in my path, and the Sysnet doc pages all seem to be "under construction". --- Roy ------------------------------------------------------------------------- This SF.net email is sponsored by: Microsoft Defy all challenges.
