AH! I had two versions of libMesh running around. I first had it linked to
version 3454 which produced the type error. With it linked to one I
downloaded this morning i got the nonconforming object sizes. Hmmm... I still
don't know what it would be.
The type error looks like a regression that was caught (and fixed)
a while back in the interaction between ghosted PetscVectors and
PetscNonlinearSolver. PetscDiffSolver should have had the same
problem. You just barely missed the bugfix work in revisions
3455-3459.
Still not sure what the nonconforming object sizes problem is; I'm
recompiling with a debug-mode PETSc now.
