Hi to all,

I am new to libmesh and quite new to finite elements as
well. I have looked through the examples and I would like to
try to modify example 9.
I want to do some thermal modeling for geological
applications. Thus, I would like to solve the diffusion
equation, but with different thermal diffusivities for
different geological layers. I want to assign different
thermal properties to each element. Unfortunately I have not
been able to find out how to do so (although I am sure that
it is quite easy).

My second question is with respect to subdomains. In a first
attempt I want to model a granitic intrusion with a
temperature of 800°C, whereas the surrounding rocks have
300°C. I have tried to import the mesh from the Matlab
PDE-toolbox and it worked fine for 2D. In future (as soon as
I am somewhat more familiar with libmesh) I would like to
extend the model to 3D. Is there any possibility to import
geometries from some program (e.g. Autocad) and to generate
the mesh with libmesh?

As you see, I am a newbie with libmesh. I am grateful for
any hint.

Thanks,
Robert

P.S: If somebody used libmesh for his/her lecture and has
some additional tutorials then it would be great if I could
have some of them. Thanks
