All, Performance tests have revealed that the current implementation of the patch recovery error estimator (patch_recovery_error_estimator.C) is expensive, primarily due to repeated calls to reinit. This is necessitated by the fact that the current implementation builds a brand new patch for every element. We would be able to save significant expense by reusing patches, which, although not as accurate will be more efficient and asymptotically correct.
We plan to make patch_reuse the default implementation, if there are questions/concerns regarding this, please let us know.
