Throw -pc_factor_mat_solver_package superlu (or mumps or superlu_dist) in
addition on your command line. If that throws a zero pivot, you can be
confident that there's a zero pivot.
Was using PETSc without any good solver packages built in, but
"-mat_view ::ascii_matlab" and octave were enough to catch the red
herring; the matrix is fine.
