Thanks for your prompt response. I just realize the last post about "infinite 
element" on the mailing list is a decade ago.. It looks like Steffen were at 
Standford at that time. I'll go through the webpages you point out, and see 
what I can do.

Others will hopefully know more than me, but there are 3D infinite

elements, both geometric

I have no idea how they work. The person that wrote those has not been

active in libMesh development for a long while.

The original infinite element developers were Daniel Dreyer and Steffen 
Petersen, but I currently don't know how to get in touch with either of them.
