IIRC I wrote that code, I should probably have remembered it...
And I should note that it works for mixed dimension meshes, too, not
just for creating a separate boundary mesh - if all the lower
dimensional elements you'll need are defined by BCIDs, you can use one
of the sync() versions to automatically add them to the mesh with the
correct interior_parent pointers.
