Maybe I don't understand what you are after, but Paraview already can show
sidesets in different colors (see screenshot in link).

On the left-hand side of the Paraview GUI, put your cursor in the search
box and type "set". A list of side and nodesets should appear which you can
select on and off. If you color by "vtkBlockColors" they will all have
different colors...
