But that doesn't make it controversial.  On the public policy agenda, one
hears of proposals only for slight changes affecting who will & won't be
allowed to drive on public roads.  There have been for many years proposals
to ban cars from the central districts of cities, but there are few places
in the world such bans have been enacted, other than for a few blocks of a
street.

Cars are just much less controverial than guns.  Cars may have passed thru
a short period of controversy, but that time is long past.  By contrast,
guns have actually become more controversial over the past century.
