Frank > Could you possibly define what you mean by 'values of the UN'?
I worded it badly. The idea of the UN and in particular the security council is to create a world order. In such an order, dictators like Saddam cannot get away with invading another country. There had to be a response. Responding to an invasion like that is not imperialism as I understand it. > Take a look around almost anywhere on the planet where the US > has committed military forces, aggression and interference over > the last 55-60 years. But since you asked, one of the > most blatant > one-sided and unbalanced foreign policy blunders has been the > support that Israel enjoys, and all of its neighbours, except > perhaps Egypt and Jordan, do not. So, support for Israel is unbalanced? That might a view that Michael Moore would support but I do not take such a view. The US will naturally take a different approach to each different country. I have my own concerns about US foreign policy. I have not investigated thoroughly but its support for Uzbekistan does not seem a good idea. In terms of the Palestian conflict, however, the US appears to me (from the limited investigation that I have done) to be on the right side, mostly. Israel acquired terrority in the 1967 war. It has however been making the mistake of allowing the settlers, who hold an extreme viewpoint, to regard that land as permanently belonging to Israel, perhaps even divinely ordained. I think the land should be given back as soon as possible and only that land strictly required for security retained. Beyond that the US should continue in trying to be the honest peace broker that, it is generally accepted, only it can really be. There seem to be encouraging signs from the new Palestinian leadership that they do want peace. However, the militant groups still seem unwilling to enter into a serious dialogue about peace.
