Phyllis Adelaide Kemp Schatz of 937 West Broadway, Butte died March 25.
She was born in Tampa Florida on February 21, 1929 to Howard and Nellie Kemp,
and grew up in Oregon and Washington.  She attended Cleveland High School in Seattle, Washington, and earned a Law Degree from the University of Washington in Seattle.

She married James Martin Schatz on October 3, 1953 in Seattle, Washington.  They were divorced in 1975 in Spokane, Washington.  In the 1980's she moved to Boise, Idaho.  In 2004, after several years of planning, Phyllis moved to her favorite city of Butte, and Montana the state she loved.
 
She was a member of the Creative Awareness Center, Special Olympics coach, 
Libertarian Party, Free State Project, and the Free West Alliance. She had been active in
the Research Committee of the Free State Project and Planning Committees for the Grand Western Conferences I and II.  Phyllis recently had joined CPR, a group dedicated to the preservation of historical buildings in Butte.  She read everything  she could from Isaac Asimov.  She wrote the poem Quest for Liberty.
 
In 1991 she had open heart surgery to correct a hole in her heart that she had since birth.
 
Phyllis loved to walk several miles every day for health and pleasure. 
 
She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Howard, and sister Opal.
 
She is survived by her children Katherine Mary Stewart and Kirk Marcus Schatz,
sister Eilene, six grandchildren, fifteen great grandchildren, and several great-great grandchildren.
 
A memorial service is scheduled for Saturday, April 16 at 5 PM at Relyea Funeral Chapel at 318 North Latah, Boise, Idaho.
