Ataturk overthrew the government of Turkey and imposed a semi-secular form
of limited democracy. This had nothing to do with a majority of Turkish Muslims
favoring such reforms. Ataturk was well aware that most Muslims disapproved of
his reforms and thus created a secularized military high command to thwart the
wishes of Turkey's majority population (95%). To this day, the Westernized
high
military officers have the right to veto anything the Turkish Parliament
passes.
Interestingly, the Islamic masses are rapidly making a come-back, and it is
only a
matter of time before the military commanders lose both their nerve and thus,
the semi-secular nature of Turkey. Allah will not be denied. :-)
The King of Morocco is not reflective of the Muslim masses he rules over. He
was never elected to the position.
It is also interesting to note that democracy in the Islamic world (especially
in the
Middle-East and Arab areas) usually empowers the most devoutly Muslim
politicians.
Note Hamas, the government of Iraq (now), recent elections in Egypt, etc. The
average Iraqi (especially women) had much more freedom under Saddam than now
(think: lack of veils, booze, movies, religion, etc.). People forget that in
2003 the
Vice-President of Iraq (second to Saddam) was an Assyrian Christian. Today, for
the most part, Christians and other Iraqi infidels have either fled the nation
or are
dead.
