I picked up the MinGW and assumed it was Windows (and the symptoms resembled a recently reported problem with MinGW on Windows). I think this is the first time I've heard of MinGW being run on anything other than Windows! Anyway, the problem seems to be with the command line, so I guess the grep error was not about grep not being found--it was about grep not finding its input file. So the FreeBSD version of mktemp requires that template argument, eh? Can you suggest a good (safe!) default?
