Sorry, I'm having to read this stuff in a hurry at the moment.  I picked
up the MinGW and assumed it was Windows (and the symptoms resembled a
recently reported problem with MinGW on Windows).  I think this is the
first time I've heard of MinGW being run on anything other than Windows!

Anyway, the problem seems to be with the command line, so I guess the grep
error was not about grep not being found--it was about grep not finding
its input file.

So the FreeBSD version of mktemp requires that template argument, eh?  Can
you suggest a good (safe!) default?
