Why is that?

I agree completely with Jon about tabs, but I feel more strongly about not
having burdensome rules.

I view the Sun conventions as guidelines.  Ones that I happen to largely
agree with, but I respect those that don't.

In some cases, code bases may be formed anew and "grow up" in commons.  In
other cases, the code base will be seeded from other locations.  I wouldn't
want a condition of contribution being that the code base has to be
reformatted first.
