Follow-up Comment #1, bug #26424 (project librefm):
If someone wants to write a Java based player they're welcome to and we can
use it as a fall-back, but since most major free browsers will have <audio>
tag support in their next major releases I'm not planning on spending any
extra time on the issue myself.
You could file a bug report with Microsoft asking them to add support for
<audio> to IE 9 if you like though.
