Sorry for asking such a stupid question, luckily I figured it out and the answer was pretty simple: just need to check out the hardware description - of a specific revision of a model of router device that you are looking for : if a switch function is not provided by the main SoC, and there is a separate switch controller onboard for this function.
OpenWRT website has a pretty good hardware descriptions. From them I learned that TP-WR841N(D) revisions v5, v7, v8, v9 do not have a separate managed switch controller, this function is done by the main SoC. Meanwhile, WNDR3800 has a RTL8366SR switch controller made by Realtek. Although its probably improving the performance of a router (because less work for the main SoC), Realtek is famous for being hostile towards opensource just like Broadcom, and Realtek already has a history of backdoors, so there could be a backdoor in this chip too... That, in addition to not good price/quality ratio, makes WNDR3800 even less attractive choice Best regards, Vladimir Shipovalov On 13 September 2015 at 13:54, Vladimir <quickcrackt...@gmail.com> wrote: > Just to clarify about the managed switch: is it only present in TL-WDR4300 > and TL-WR1043ND models, or it could also be found in some other devices > from "Supported Hardware" list?
